The Asphalt Plant Foreman is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Asphalt Plant, as well as excellent communication between departments, including, your direct employees, the Paving crews and shop.


 

Key Responsibilities

•    Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt plant, using button controls and computer controlled blending systems to produce quality asphalt product.
•    Demonstrate a specific and technical understanding of different mix designs, aggregates AC oils and test results.
•    Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment and electrical components of plants without compromising worker safety, the environment, or the quality of the asphalt product.
•    Communicate with workers on and off the plant side on topics, including the operating efficiency of the plant, asphalt order quantities, and technical and mechanical issues.
•    Coordinate, communicate and work with the Quality Control department, to ensure high quality production of asphalt products.
•    Perform daily walk around inspections of the plant site, noting and addressing any issues.
•    Demonstrate an ability to plan ahead, adjusting start times and loading times to ensure both timeliness and efficiency in the production process. 
•    Communicate with Paving Foreman and Superintendent to ensure production level are being met and to determine next day quantities
•    Keep track of outgoing trucks and asphalt production numbers and statistics.
•    Collect paperwork from scale house, and compare haul tickets to aggregate totalizer numbers and oil computer.
•    Completed daily records and plant reports, based on quantities of aggregates and AC usage.
•    Clean out plant when asphalt quantity has been met for the day.
•    Order asphalt oil, burner fuel and aggregates, according to job quantities and demands. 
•    Perform and oversee the set-up and take-down of portable asphalt plants. 
•    Diesel slat chain and switch from day to night genset, recording how long day genset ran.
•    Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
•    Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.  
•    Perform other related duties as required. 

Qualifications

  
•    Class 5 Driver’s License required
•    High School Diploma/GED preferred.
•    Training in Confined Space Entry/Monitor, Aerial Lift and Fall Arrest preferred.   
•    Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of asphalt equipment
•    Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience supervising others.
•    Experience within a road construction company is an asset. 

Working Condidtions

  • Schedule may consist of up to 24 working days, 4 day off and up to 14 hours per day (weather dependent). Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
  • Out of town travel throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories is required and may consist of remote locations, accommodations and Live Out Allowance (LOA) is applicable in most situations.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
