Job Summary

HRI, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947, has an opening for an experienced and energetic Bridge Foreman. HRI has openings in its State College locations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project, including working with tools, lumber, and materials.
  • Work off the ground positioning pile in leads, climbing ladders up to 60 feet.
  • Assemble and guide girders into final position, including handling as needed to preset.
  • Able to clearly explain steps, provide directions, and answer questions while organizing subordinates.
  • Properly train subordinates on the tasks being performed and efficiency in training a replacement
  • Have mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do timesheets, including quantities.
  • Able to identify potential schedule conflicts, and problems and connect with supervisor.
  • Able to read plans, perform simple layout with minimal direction.
  • Perform multiple technical skills including: form/construct overhangs, substructure concrete, and understand the basics of cost control, equipment operations and project requirements.

Education

  • 5+ years in bridge/heavy highway construction in lead role
  • Some supervisory experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred
  • Valid drivers’ license while maintaining a clean driving history

Skills

  • Must comply will all DOT regulations and follow the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Work varying shifts and long hours dependent on market demands
  • Consistent record working safely
  • Good work ethic, professional, and positive attitude
  • Optimally manage the work plan and a crew of 5-6 employees with minimal direction

Physical Requirements

The bridge foreman must have a strong dedication to safety practices to protect oneself and others on the job site. This includes adhering to safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and identifying potential hazards.

They primarily work outdoors on construction sites, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, and inclement weather conditions. The job may require frequent bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Irregular hours and occasional travel to different job sites may be vital.

Other Physical Requirements Include:

  • The ability to lift heavy objects, such as paving materials, tools, and equipment; this may involve lifting weights up to 50 pounds or more
  • Stamina to work long hours in various weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold. They may need to stand for extended periods to meet project timelines
  • Effective interpersonal skills (both listening and verbal), listening to equipment signals, and being aware of potential hazards in the work environment.
