Purpose of the Role

Colas Continental Bitumen UK is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor for our Avonmouth Depot. This facility imports, stores, blends, and supplies bitumen to a diverse clientele within the construction industry. This pivotal role focuses on the efficient operation of our onsite laboratory and the effective management of laboratory personnel.

Reporting directly to the Terminal Manager, the Laboratory Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the lab, ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe environment while adhering to all company policies and statutory regulations.

In this role, you will manage resources and workflow within the laboratory, prioritizing tasks and ensuring that all stakeholder requirements are met. Additionally, the Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining the business's quality control standards in alignment with the Integrated Management System.

Main Responsibilities

The Laboratory Supervisor will ensure the safe operation of the laboratory and the well-being of all laboratory staff. You will be responsible for managing Risk and COSHH assessments, maintaining policies and statutory regulations, and reporting any near misses or incidents.

As a leader, you will train and mentor your team, allocating workloads based on project priorities. You will also manage stock levels and budgets, overseeing waste management in collaboration with the Terminal Manager and implementing LEAN principles.

Furthermore, you will ensure that the Quality Plan is executed effectively, providing guidance to lab staff on meeting requirements, and ensuring that all quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) records are accurately maintained and addressed promptly.

 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, along with IOSH Managing Safely certification, supervisory experience, and a background in QC testing and QA procedures.

You should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, a keen attention to detail, and a meticulous approach to your work, including the ability to write detailed reports.

While a driving license and personal transport are preferred due to the location, they are not essential.
