Purpose of the role

This is a role for someone who thrives on responsibility, ownership, and on creating a safe, positive, and high‑performing workplace. As Terminal Manager, you’ll take the lead in running the entire Avonmouth Terminal, making sure it operates safely, efficiently and reliably every day. You will guide and support a team of operators and contractors, collaborate closely with shipping and logistics partners, and be a driving force behind our commitment to exceptional QHSSE standards, excellent customer service and continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be the person ensuring that every element of terminal operation runs smoothly from the safe import and export of bitumen by ship and truck, to the blending, storage and dispatch processes that keep our business moving. You will oversee maintenance, stock control, scheduling and operational planning, while building strong relationships with port authorities, regulators, service providers and the on‑site distribution partner.

Your leadership will set the tone. You’ll create a culture where safety and professionalism come first, where people feel supported and respected, and where every colleague is encouraged to develop, contribute ideas and embrace innovation. You will also act as the terminal’s main point of contact during emergencies, ensuring that all procedures and communication channels are clear and effective.

This is a role with real influence, where your decisions will have a direct impact on operational excellence, customer satisfaction and the long‑term success of a flagship Colas asset.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who brings both technical insight and a strong people focus. You may already be working as a terminal or production manager, or you might come from a related sector such as oil, chemicals or marine operations, where you have developed a deep understanding of handling hazardous or oil‑based products.

You’ll hold an HNC/D or Degree qualification, along with relevant safety credentials, and ideally some engineering knowledge. Experience leading operational teams is important, as is a solid grasp of HSSE requirements, emergency procedures and industry best practice. A clean driving licence is essential.

Your success in this role will come from your leadership approach: someone who listens, supports, communicates clearly and is motivated by developing others as well as achieving operational goals. Strong decision‑making skills, problem‑solving resilience and the ability to adapt in a fast‑moving environment will help you thrive. If you bring knowledge of the bitumen industry, that’s a bonus, but if not, your willingness to learn will be just as valuable.
