Purpose of the role
Colas is seeking a proactive and people-focused Business Support Officer to join our dedicated team based at our Guilden Sutton Depot, CH2 4EX. Reporting to the Business Performance Improvement Manager, you will ensure a smooth communication between our teams, the council, stakeholders, and the public. You'll support the contract’s performance, improve customer satisfaction, and drive stakeholder engagement across the region.
Main Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, you'll be at the heart of our Business Performance Team, supporting the delivery of a major Highways Maintenance contract for Cheshire West and Chester. Acting as the key point of contact for customer and stakeholder communications, you’ll handle enquiries and complaints through the Confirm system and designated inbox, ensuring timely and professional responses. You’ll coordinate internal and external communications, including newsletters, briefing notes, and event support, while working closely with Colas’ Corporate Communications team. You’ll manage updates across digital platforms such as the Colas ONE App and Member Portal, contribute to key performance reporting using tools like Power BI, and support seasonal peaks in activity across the wider contract. Maintaining accurate logs, liaising with council teams, promoting community engagement, and gathering customer insights will all form part of your varied and rewarding day-to-day work.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in communications, marketing, and/ or customer service would be advantageous.We’re looking for someone with strong communication and organisational skills, who enjoys working with people and can confidently interact with a wide range of stakeholders – from residents and councillors to internal teams and partners. You’ll need to be calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while meeting service level agreements. It is essential that you are proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), and a willingness to learn tools such as Power BI, SharePoint, or AI-based systems like ChatGPT. A proactive attitude, enthusiasm for learning, and a genuine interest in delivering great outcomes for the community are key to success in this role. A UK driving licence would be beneficial due to occasional travel to other depots.
Package Description

- A salary between £25,000 and £29,000 (dependent on experience)
