Job Title:   General Construction Foreman 
Reports to:   Construction Superintendent 

Job Summary:  Oversee activities of workers engaged in constructing improvements and inspects work performed by crafts / construction subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications.  Plan work for a general construction crew and oversee safety procedures, quality of workmanship, production costs, and employee morale.  Oversee project progress and proactively manage to the project schedule and budget.  Schedule/direct crew work, prepare work plans, assure quality control, manage/track costs, coordinate equipment and subcontractors, administer safety program, train crew members, and maintain positive owner relations.

Key Responsibilities

Schedule:

Read, interpret and understand all contract documents, bid documents, job specifications and plans.  Report plan or specification discrepancies to supervisor as soon as possible.

Assist in building and managing a construction schedule.  Plan daily work schedule.

Figure daily trucking needs and communicate same to superintendent.

Determine quantities and types of materials, tools, equipment, and labor needed to complete assigned projects.

Lead crews and actively work with them in all phases of construction.
Reinforce a positive work environment to craft labor that motivates excellence with regard to performing individual job duties in a safe and profitable manner.
Responsible for insuring the safety of workers, equipment and public at work site.
Responsible for the crew’s observance of all company, client and government rules and regulations on the jobsite.

Qualifications: 

Utilizes organizational skills. Must display strong written and oral communication skills and employ effective listening skills. Must be able to analyze problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and costs. Strong leadership and relationship building skills.  Ability to interact with others and positively influence their behavior in an organized manner while managing multiple daily activities.  Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups. Must be able to work well with diverse personalities.
Must specialize managing a crew in all types of pipe installation, concrete removal and installation, excavation and embankment, and all aspects of building or reconstructing a roadway. Must have strong blueprint reading skills, as well as GPS layout and machine control experence.  
Education/Experience: 

Five years of civil construction experience.  Degree in construction related field preferred.  Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, safety, and quality control. 

Computer Skills: 

Basic computer knowledge including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and internet applications preferred.
Mathematical Skills: 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: 

High degree of reasoning ability and problem-solving skills.  Flexible in adapting to changing needs, detail oriented and adept at analytical problem solving.  Demonstrate independence in problem solving and be able to quickly analyze, compare, and interpret detailed and sometimes poorly defined information, and be able to make sound and accurate judgments based on best available information.
