Traffic Signals Maintenance Engineer

Purpose of the role
We have a great opportunity for a a Traffic Signals Maintenance Engineer to join the ITS team based in Grantham, NG31 7LG. Reporting to the ITS Supervisor, you will be responsible for the reactive and, annual maintenance of the traffic signals street equipment which is installed on all of our 320+ sites within the county of Lincolnshire.
Main Responsibilities
As a Traffic Signals Maintenance Engineer, you will ensure that all health, safety, and environmental guidelines are strictly followed on site. You will actively participate in safety meetings, incident reporting, and toolbox talks to maintain a safe working environment. Promptly reporting any technical or site faults to supervisors is essential to keep operations running smoothly. Developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of all traffic signal systems and equipment is a key part of your responsibilities. You will be responsible for keeping accurate and up-to-date site records and documentation, as well as completing timesheets and worksheets on time. Punctuality is important, so arriving at work on time and reporting any delays is required. Maintaining the cleanliness and serviceability of vehicles, tools, and equipment is expected to ensure readiness for work. You will also identify any commercial risks and escalate these to your supervisor as needed. Delivering high-quality workmanship with a “Right First Time” approach will be central to your daily activities. Supporting the achievement of key performance indicators and targets is also part of the role. You will keep your vehicle stocked with the necessary equipment to complete first-time repairs during maintenance visits. Installing traffic signal equipment to a high standard and in line with customer specifications will be one of your core tasks. Representing the company professionally at all times and maintaining confidentiality is essential. Additionally, you must be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Finally, you will carry out any other duties as assigned by your line manager.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in a field engineering role or a similar role, working on Highways / Traffic management experience (desirable). You will be skilled at identifying faults and repairing or maintaining electronic equipment. A deep customer-focused approach is essential, ensuring excellent service delivery at all times. Effective time management is required to organise workloads and prioritise tasks in consultation with the line manager. The ability to switch between multiple tasks and handle frequent interruptions from calls and electronic communications is key. Strong communication, influencing, negotiation, interpersonal, and report writing skills are essential. A full UK driving license and the willingness to travel and work outdoors are also required.
