Summary: Controls movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects, while ensuring the safety of the traveling public and crew. 

 

Responsibilities:

- Discusses traffic routing plans, type and location of control points with superior

- Distributes traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern

- Directs movement of traffic through site, using, signs, hands and flag signals

- Warns crew when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers

- Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites

- Gives hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic

- May occasionally operate pilot car at construction site
 

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience: 

- Flagging Certificate required

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 

- Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain

- Frequent exposure to loud noise 

- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
