Social Value Manager

Purpose of the Role
The Social Value Manager will drive and monitor progress, making sure that strong social value performance is driven across the business, personally managing activity within the relevant area(s).
The Social Value Manager role will also involve aspects of marketing and publicity in conjunction with our in-house marketing team. They will act as an internal and external representative for Colas Rail CSR policies and projects. They will be responsible for raising awareness of Colas Rail’s commitment to social value and generating publicity around Colas Rail positive and community focused endeavors.

This is a 12 month FTC role to cover maternity.
Person Specification
- At least three years’ experience working in social value delivery.
- Good knowledge of social impact methods and confident with both qualitative and quantitative methods
- Experience of directing local delivery resources
- A track record of developed project management skills and excellent time management skills, able to work under pressure and remain calm.
- Entrepreneurialism and drive – able to spot, create and successfully exploit business opportunities and build the partnerships necessary to deliver them, self-motivated & able to work with minimal supervision
- Understand local government policies relating to CSR, Carbon reduction and SV requirements, able to translate these into robust action plans and delivery programmes
- Ability to engage, communicate and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at different levels
- Strong interpersonal and wider relationship management skills, a good listener who is able to empathise
- Experience of working on a partnership basis, to enjoy working collaboratively with partners and colleagues
- Excellent, concise writing skills and the ability to communicate complicated ideas in simple terms
- Experienced in using traditional and social media as a vehicle for building awareness and generating engagement
- Confident presenter and trainer
- Confident with Microsoft Office and Excel
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver Business Unit Social Value strategy and action plans in line with UK Strategy, with the Business Unit Leadership Team
- Engage with clients and local stakeholders as the ‘go to’ contact for Social Value in the business.
- Establish and maintain Social Value Steering Groups made up of customers and stakeholders, appropriate to regional and corporate activity.
- Support Infrastructure Projects to deliver Social Value commitments.
- Social Value measurement, evaluation and reporting supported by SV Champions
- Contribution to Head of Safety and Sustainability Business Unit reports
- Support the preconstruction team with tender stage social value planning and quality responses.
- Collaboratively develop Social Value Plans with stakeholders post-tender
- Support the delivery teams to carry out planned activities, ensuring outcomes are recorded.
- Contributing to the Colas Rail UK ESG Steering Group
- Maintaining awareness of, and connectivity with, social value activities the wider Colas Group, including Bouygues
- Engaging with the wider Social Value community to identify and harness best practice and innovative ways of working.
- Providing thought leadership and positive communications around Colas Rails Social Value
- Supporting, mentoring, and training project Social Value Champions
