Job Title: Assistant Project Manager - Degree Apprentice (Level 6)
Location: Old Oak Common, London
Division: Infrastructure - OLE
Reporting To: Project Lead

Purpose of the Role

As part of the role of an Assistant Project Manager (Project Management Degree Level Apprenticeship) you will get the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary and multi-million pound projects, or deliver parts of key contracts and their associated activities, from conception through to completion, delivering work that has real impact.

 

Throughout the duration of your apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to learn and develop your skills both 'on' and 'off' the job, and to work towards your Level 6 Project Management Degree and Membership with the Association of Project Management.

What I will be Focused on during my Apprenticeship?

As an Project Management Apprentice you will play a key role in assisting the Project Manager or Delivery Manager to successfully deliver a project or contract. You will be working together with your team to grow your understanding on the fundamentals of project management, looking at budgets and cost management, and how to deliver on time whilst ensuring safety and quality. Spending time with experienced Colas Rail Project Managers throughout your apprenticeship journey will give you the opportunity to really understand what successful project management looks like.

 

Communication skills are key, and working collaboratively with your team and client will be integral to your role. You will get the opportunity to grow your network and problem solve together. To be a successful project management apprentice you will be required to show resilience and be able to react quickly and dynamically to change.

You will be at the forefront of ensuring that your project delivers safely, and you will have a part to play in the safety of passengers, staff and the public. We are also focused on ensuring our work leaves a lasting, positive impact on the world around us, so having an eye for how we can innovate and be creative is critical.

 

Your apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to learn, gain experience and grow your future career in Project Management. We will commit to supporting you throughout your apprenticeship journey, and you will supported by your Line Manager, your Team, the Early Careers team and your apprenticeship provider, as well as benefiting from being part of a wide support network of Apprentices and Graduates across our business. 

About You - Person Specification

  • You have completed your A-Levels by July 2025
  • You are able to drive or will have completed your driving test by August 2025
  • You will be able to collaborate as part of a team
  • You have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be comfortable with working nights and weekends
  • You show an interest and drive to be part of the Rail Industry and Colas Rail
  • You can work independently and in a team using your own initiative
