Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Lead Engineer Electrification & Plant to spearhead the engineering deliverables for the Electrification & Plant Team’s safe delivery of projects/jobs inside the required cost, time, delivery and quality objectives within the corporate guidelines.

Develop appropriate relations with the Design, Engineering and Construction Teams and subcontractors to ensure that all Engineering and Construction related issues are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner ensuring that the alliance principals are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements and any other reasonable duties as required.
  • Business travel will be required to attend meeting and site visits. Working night shifts and weekends on site will also be required for the Renewal works.
  • Lead the Delivery of Electrification & Plant Technical & Construction activities. Ensuring high Safety standards are adhered to by ensuring Engineering compliance with all applicable standards, legislation, Contract requirements and specifications.
  • Attend IDC & DCI meetings to ensure that that the discipline Design and /or Construction complies with all applicable standards, legislation, Contract requirements and specifications to ensure that Construction related issues are resolved.
  • Lead the delivery and supply strategies and plans for specific projects/jobs and Interface with the Production Team and Subcontractors to ensure safe delivery to client expectations in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Provide for review any Engineering or Construction related quality & safety issues. Assist with managing the processes to optimise project delivery and to provide consultative advice on Technical Electrification & Plant issues where applicable.
  • Apply sound Engineering Principles, taking into account Cost, Quality and Timeliness in collaboration with the Electrification/Production Team/ Subcontractors and Clients for each of the jobs/projects.
  • Be commercially astute towards the procurement of labour, plant and materials in line with the budget for the job/Project. Ensuring any variation to the estimate and ensured this is managed effectively and if necessary, the change request made to the Production Manager.
  • Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective Engineering support service for the company and client in accordance with Railway Group, Network Rail company standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in the development of supply strategies and framework contract

Person Specification

  • Must have Electrically biased Qualifications
  • Must have Electrification & Plant Construction experience to plan and lead jobs /projects
  •  Must have detailed knowledge of Network Rail standards, safety regulations and CDM relevant to the specialist area of construction being undertaken
  •  Must have ability to demonstrate leadership skills and be capable of motivating the team.
  •  Have experience of delivering budgets to program and demonstrate Commercial and financial understanding and knowledge.
  • Must have understanding of all other rail disciplines
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have a proficient level of IT skills
