The Concrete Superintendent supervises employees directly related in the manufacturing and distribution of Ready Mix Concrete for all western plants - Malone, Massena, Potsdam, and Ogdensburg.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops production plans in advance with the Plants Manager and Sales Department, taking into account customer requirements with respect to tonnage, specs of produc,t and shipping schedule; reviewing budgeted costs and manpower requirements to meet production plans.  
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting requirements of the approved production plan at the minimum cost and consistent with good operating practice.
  • Analyzes results of plant operations to pinpoint the variances from plans.
  • Ensures all Ready Mix trucks at various locations are used in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Keeps operating expenses within budget allowance while conducting a continuous cost reduction program and being alert for other improvements in plant operation.
  • Administers safety program.  Analyzes hazards, correct same, train personnel in safe procedures and formulates and enforces safety procedures.
  • Requests necessary personnel to staff the plant for the forecast level of operations.  Assigns tasks, trains, and checks progress of personnel, frequently keeping them advised of their progress.  Counsels employees on their growth potential and recommend for promotion qualified employees performing their duties in an outstanding manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for training a qualified person to fill in or replace Plant Superintendent whenever necessary.
  • Maintains properties in good condition and appearance.   Carries out approved plans for plant rehabilitation and beautification.
  • Consults directly with Plants Manager regarding required maintenance items and replacements.
  • Arranges for necessary parts and services, issuing special order PO numbers.  
  • Submits recommendations to the Plants Manager covering capital improvements, additions and replacements of plant and fleet equipment.  
  • Directs the use of standard accounting procedures in JDE and other forms to ensure the routine reporting of data relating to production, sales, inventories, costs, etc. as required. 
  •  Assists Plant and Regional Manager in developing operating budgets.
  • Deals with customers and employees in a courteous, friendly, and honest manner.  Makes every effort to follow this policy and to influence the employees working under his direction to do likewise.
  • Ensures that the plant, equipment and site are kept in compliance with all EPA and environmental regulations.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing, concrete manufacturing preferred
  • 2+ years of supervision
  • Supervision within a Union environment
  • Ability to travel within georgraphical responsibility
  • Ability to travel outside of geographical responsibilty for trainings/seminars/conferences

  • Computer skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work with confidential information

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds from the ground to the waist
  • Ability to sit or stand for hours at a time
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
