Purpose of the Role
To ensure safety, compliance, and performance of all Colas Rail Freight Class 37, 43 and 56 vehicles through effective management of monitoring systems, engineering change, legislative change, and improvement initiatives.
Person Specification
- Level 5 Qualification in an Engineering based subject (desirable)
- Minimum of Level 3 Qualification in an Engineering based subject (essential)
- Professionally registered with an Engineering body (desirable)
- In date personnel track safety (PTS) (desirable)
- Experience in project management
- Experience in maintaining and/or managing assets
- Good organisational skills
- Analytical skills – spot what others miss
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
- An awareness and understanding of engineering standards and compliance
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Commutable to Rugby and Derby
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with all local and company rules or instructions on safety matters.
- Acknowledge and work in line with the freight engineering RACI
- Responsible for asset management activities as directed by the Fleet Engineering Manager
- Identify and manage locomotive planned and reactive maintenance activities interrogating work sheets to verify work has been completed satisfactorily
- Review and close out all preventive maintenance paperwork on the asset management system prior to locomotive release
- Raise work deferrals, dispensations and Engineering Bulletins as required ensuring both rail vehicle compliance and safety of the line through the appropriate means of risk mitigation
- Work with the Engineering Manager to review both the short cast and long cast production plans
- Work with the Buying and Stores teams to ensure the correct material is stocked to support the fleet maintenance and repair requirement
- Assess and inform of minimum and maximum stock holdings for critical items
- Liaise with the Reliability Engineer to identify and implement condition-based monitoring of Freight locomotives
- Provide the production team with repair schemes and maintenance procedures as required
- Identify locomotive modification and improvement initiatives raising Engineering Change Requests to support the changes
- Review, update and create maintenance procedures based on locomotive performance
- Attend daily fleet meetings as required
- Undertake Duty Engineer ‘on call’ as per the on-call roster
- As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
