HRI, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947, has an opening for an experienced and energetic Project Engineer at its Maryland and Virginia area.

 

The Project Engineer position is within our Utilities Region, where we are a leader in the water/wastewater treatment plant construction business in addition to our leading position with large, municipal pipe projects. Our project market includes most of Pennsylvania and parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

 

The primary function of a Project Engineer is to assist Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and other personnel in managing, scheduling, and purchasing for various types of construction projects.

 

Duties for the Project Engineer would include but are not limited to understand, support, and adhere to HRI safety requirements; observe and correct violations as they arise on project sites. The qualified candidate would plan work and purchase materials, assist Project Manager with daily project duties including material billing preparations, expedite material procurement, approval, and delivery as necessary to promote accurate and efficient project construction. Other duties would include preparing and tracking all necessary submittals, obtaining required material certifications, ordering necessary materials and supplies, maintain project files, current drawings, and production records, while identifying, pursuing and recovering fair compensation for all changes in scope while optimizing cash flow. The Project Engineer will assist the Project Manager in overall coordination of project including subcontractors, while building and maintain positive subcontractor relationships.

 

While the corporate office is based in State College, PA the qualified candidate will be based in the Maryland and or Virginia area where they will oversee projects in their respective area. Travel will be a requirement for the position.

 

Preference will be given to candidates having a four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related degree, at least five (5) years engineering experience, and excellent communication skills. Preferred qualifications include general knowledge of computer software such as Auto CAD, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, Primavera Project Planner, JDE, etc. Other requirements would include experience with project planning, scheduling, and estimating. The individual would have to have the ability to prepare subcontractor scopes of work, familiarity with pricing, purchasing, and preparation of purchase orders for materials and equipment, and the ability to read and understand drawings. The preferred candidate should have the capability of growing into larger roles in the future.
