What does a General Accountant do?

While managing the administrative staff (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Administrator and Timekeeper), the General Accountant provides financial information to the corporate finance team by analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.

As a General Accountant, You Will:

  • Manage the accounting operations (material sales, timecard, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month end journal entries)
  • Take the lead in month end closing to ensure cost/revenue is booked on time 
  • Ensure rapid and consistent collection of receivables
  • Review/process inventory purchase/production and usage; Reconciling inventory account on a monthly basis
  • Assist with financial analysis and budget preparation
  • Assist with year end audit
  • Assist with contract administration including new code setup and change order updates in JDE (JD Edwards)
  • Oversee accounting department
  • Provide professional development and daily performance for administrative staff
  • Implement and maintain procedures/office administrative systems
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Bring

  • Hands on experience with JDE would be an asset
  • Post Secondary Accounting Degree or diploma
  • CA, CGA or CMA designation or currently enrolled in an accounting designation program
  • Strong Microsoft knowledge
  • Minimum of five years experience in accounting field and two years experience in management role
  • Working knowledge/awareness of the Construction Lean Act and Bonding
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and strong problem solving skills
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
