Summary:

Provides fuel, lubrication, preventative maintenance and minor repair services to company mobile equipment.


Successful candidates should enjoy working in all types of weather conditions and have the ability to travel extensively with overnight stays away from home for extended periods of time on the Highway Asphalt Plant.

Responsibilities

•    Diagnoses faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs including use of engine diagnostic equipment
•    Repairs and replace damaged or worn parts
•    Dismantles and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
•    Operates and inspects machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
•    Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications
•    Reads and understands operating manuals and technical drawings as necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment
•    Installs ignition systems, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts
•    Performs high and low voltage electrical trouble-shooting and repairs
•    Repairs gas or diesel engines; tests to ensure operating efficiency
•    Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and makes adjustments
•    Cleans, lubricates and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
•    Maintains clean/operable tools and service truck
•    Performs other duties related to role as assigned
 
Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience: 
•    Certificate in Diesel Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
•    At least 5 years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic preferred and/or hot plant experiece preferred
•    Experience performing U.S. DOT vehicle and brake inspections and adjustments preferred
•    Class CDL A with Tanker & Hazmat Endorsement preferred or ability to obtain within 60 days and clean driving history 
•    ASE Certification preferred
•    Proficiency in MS Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel)
•    Experience with welding and using a cutting torch preferred
•    Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
•    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
•    Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
•    Ability to maintain and provide tooling required for position

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required
  • Regularly required to lift and /or move between 25 and 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Occasionally required lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Standing/working on feet for long periods (8 hours or more), and walking across uneven terrain
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise produced by machinery and equipment
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes, chemicals, or airborne particles
