SIMON | Gate Attendant/Construction Laborer-Cheyenne Regional Airport Project

Date: Apr 2, 2021

Country: Cheyenne, Wyoming, US, 82007

Company: Colas

Subsidiary: Simon

Simon is a subsidiary of the Colas Group, a worldwide leader in infrastructure construction and maintenance. Simon specializes in aggregates, asphalt and ready-mix concrete production, asphalt paving, and concrete, bridge, highway, and utility construction. Through strong local ties backed by global resources, we focus on quality and value to deliver the best products and services for our clients.  What we do is bigger than construction – it is about connecting communities, building new roads to the future, and keeping the spirit of the pioneers alive and well.

Ready to Support Safety and Production?

This role will help support our construction operations as we complete an airport runway project.  As a gate attendant, you will support safety and security by controlling entry and verifying access credentials of construction personnel.  In order to keep things interesting, this position will also rotate from gate duties to working with our construction crews assisting with construction and general labor tasks, including but not limited to:

•    Supporting the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives;
•    Safely operating vehicles, tools and/or equipment when authorized/assigned;
•    Directing movement of traffic through site, using, signs, hands and flag signals;
•    Maintaining clean and organized working areas;
•    Working with skilled laborers and craft workers to complete projects; and
•    Engaging in physical labor necessary for completion of construction projects

(This role is temporary – project scheduled from April to September 2021; top performers will have opportunity to join the team in a long-term opening with one of our seasonal construction crews that may be available at the end of the project).

What does it take?

This is a great entry-level role with only a few requirements to be considered - a high school diploma or equivalent, and prior experience working in construction or a similar environment is preferred (mostly, we want to know that you are willing and able to work outside in all types of weather, and not afraid to get dirty and help where needed).  Also, safety is our number one priority, so speed demons need not apply – you must have a valid license and ability to maintain a clean driving history.

What can I expect?

Safety is our number one goal, so wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) provided is a must.  This role requires some physical labor, so you may be required to regular lift and move up to 50 lbs and must have the dexterity to move objects.  Communication is key to safe and productive operations – you must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.  This position will require long periods of standing and/or sitting while watching the gate, as well as frequent movement including reaching, stooping, kneeling, and even some crouching and crawling while assisting construction crews – it’s a construction site, so you will also be expected to have the ability to walk across uneven terrain.  Construction equipment creates noisy conditions (hearing protection is provided), and you can expect to be exposed to weather, dust, and working around some chemicals (fuel/oil, etc.).  Production is key to success, so schedules can vary, including long days and some weekend shifts when necessary.  Oh – and did we mention - this position offers excellent pay(For the duration of the project, this position will be subject to Davis-Bacon wage requirements)

What type of person are we looking for?

At Simon, we operate according to a strong set of core values, ethics, and a safety focus; we expect our employees to support those as well as participating in continuous improvement and supporting success.
