Summary:

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for testing and inspection of all aggregate products produced and delivered to internal and external customers; ensures systems are established and maintained, and staff is trained to meet high quality product standards; coordinates quality control activities with other functions such as marketing, customer service, production planning, testing and new product development.

 

The Technician I Level is an entry-level role; candidates will have up to 2 years of experience, an Associate’s degree, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities:

•    Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives
•    Read, understand, and have a good working knowledge of the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction / aggregate / concrete / asphalt industry
•    Assess effectiveness and maximize productivity and quality opportunities that lead to continuous improvement
•    Communicate across all departments to enhance the teamwork essential to consistently producing quality products
•    Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary
•    Ensure that accurate test results are reported daily and on time to supervisor
•    Review and analyze test results to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications as required
•    Ensure all quality control operations and activities are conducted in conformance with company policies, regulatory agencies and acceptable working practices are in compliance with standards
•    Recommend measures to improve quality control methods, equipment, performance, service, safety and quality of products
•    Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups
•    Operates company vehicle to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience:

•    0-2 years of technical quality control experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required; associates degree in related field preferred
•    0-2 years of experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Control testing aggregates, asphalt and concrete or in some of the field listed preferred
•    Knowledge of applicable reference and testing material manuals and specifications governed by federal, state and local testing agencies, to include DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards
•    ACI and DOT testing certified, or ability to become certified within 1 year; other certifications may be required
•    Basic computer skills including use of MS Office Products
•    Valid driver's license and ability to maintain clean driving record required

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

•    Wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) required
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Frequently exposed to all weather conditions
•    Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
•    Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
•    Work performed indoors and outdoors; noise exposure varies from quiet to loud
•    Frequent exposure to working around moving equipment and machinery
•    Frequent exposure to dust, airborne particles and chemicals
