Position Overview

Midland Asphalt Materials Inc., a subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corporation, provides advanced pavement preservation solutions for our customers’ needs. We are currently looking for an Environmental Safety Intern out of our Clearfield, PA location for the 2022 summer season. This is a paid, full-time internship. This Intern will gain practical hands-on experience through project work in a manufacturing environment. As an intern, you will perform a variety of tasks, supporting various project managers and collaborating with team members. You will receive both on-the-job and formal training as well as mentorship, and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions. You should be a motivated team player who can maintain efficiency and accuracy when multitasking.  

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain close contact with upstream and downstream operations on items affecting product or process quality
  • Maintain and grow relationships with community neighbors
  • Perform air samples at local facilities and job sites
  • Participate in Colas XFI Reporting (CSR)
  • Support internal regulatory reporting including data collection and reporting including but not limited to air storm water and surface water discharge
  • Tracking and renewing all licenses and permits as required
  • Monitor all environment reporting
  • Assist in compliance with DEC, DEP, and EPA regulations


  • Currently pursuing an Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial), Business (Manufacturing) degree, Safety degree, or an Environmental degree in a related field
  • Combination of business, interpersonal, technical, and analytical skills
  • Ability to travel throughout NY and PA to visit other manufacturing plants occasionally, with the possibility of some overnights
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Strong sense of teamwork with a high level of individual contribution
  • Ability to communicate and work with teams at all organizational levels, including senior management
  • Good planning and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
