Job Title/Summary

 

Job Title:           Estimator
Area:                  RB Baker Construction - Garden City, Ga
Report to:          Chief Estimator
Status:               Exempt
Supervisor to:   Estimators, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, Support Staff

 

Job Summary:

Qualified candidates must be self-motivated Construction Professionals with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the industry.  Candidates should be familiar with site development and highway construction, understand job cost management, have a strong work ethic and work well with other members of the team. Knowledge of HCSS software and experience in project management are perferred.

 

 

 

 


 

 

Main Responsibilites

 

Reponsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements; setting priorities.
  • Prepares construction budget by studying plans; updating specifications; identifying and projecting costs for each elevation.
  • Evaluates offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements.
  • Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
  • Maintains cost keys and price masters by updating information.
  • Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
  • Maintains continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Skills, Qualifications & Competencies

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • BS in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in heavy highway construction and site development.
  • Solid decision making, communication and problem solving skills
  • Experience in a supervisory/leadership position with strong people skills
  • Knowledge and experience with engineering plans, project planning, resource scheduling, procurement and general project management principles.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection, tests, and methods.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Construction Related Software (HCSS preferred)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and proposals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to Travel, which may occasionally be required for short intervals.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration as well as regularly performing work inside an office environment. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when required to be outside, much quieter when working indoors.
