NYN Mechanic Job Description
 
Job Title:          Mechanic I
Department:     Operations
Reports To:       General Supervisor/ Shop Manager
FLSA Status:     Nonexempt

 

SUMMARY 
Under limited supervision, responsible for routine technical repair and maintenance of field Construction equipment. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Perform minor troubleshooting, order parts, and repair down equipment in the field.  

Knows and follows all company, federal, and state environmental and safety regulations.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
Trade school, Associates degree. Usually has completed automotive repair training programs leading to certificates of completion, and has 2 years of experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports.  Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to perform routine computations as may be needed to carry out responsibilities.

 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS  
May have a certificate from a trade school. Requires a valid driver’s license.

Main Responsibilities

  • Haul equipment (mostly over width) and materials to various road construction job sites throughout New York State
  • Perform daily pre and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle: This requires climbing up, on and over unit to verify everything is in proper working order

Qualifications

  • Experience hauling over width equipment and/or oversize loads preferred
  • Must have a valid Class A CDL with Tanker and Airbrakes Endorsement; HazMat Endorsement preferred
  • Must have a good driving record
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience preferred
  • Must adhere to all DOT and Barrett NYN safety regulations
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and physical requirements
