Responsible for daily operations of a commercial aggregate quarry or pit, and concrete ready-mix production plant including safety, quality control, and supervision of employees. 


  • Ensure the highest standards are achieved and maintained in terms of safety, environmental performance, quality, and efficiency 
  • Effectively manage the work environment to ensure safety, environmental, regulatory and production targets are met
  • Ensure continual compliance with MSHA, OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Maintain effective relationships and interface with customers, suppliers, local communities, local, state and federal governments, and company business groups
  • Manage the activities of quarry, pit, and/or dredge production crews to meet established business and production objectives
  • Quote prices and receive orders for company products such as ready-mix concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and miscellaneous resale products
  • Establish delivery schedules according to factors including truck capacity, delivery site distance, and unloading time
  • Use computer system to enter and maintain customer data, manage dispatch schedule, prepare reports, and respond to e-mail correspondence
  • Batch and inspect loads to ensure consistency of mix
  • Prepare invoices, delivery tickets, and related shipping documents; assign drivers for scheduled deliveries
  • Receive payments (including cash) for shipments from drivers; prepare reports of cash and charge sales
  • Assist with review and analysis of production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems
  • Assist with revision of production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operation issues
  • Assists with maintenance scheduling, and coordinates maintenance of equipment to keep equipment and facility in top condition to optimize production flow
  • Perform administrative tasks, including but not limited to e-mail correspondence, timecard entry, handling documents and electronic files, etc.
  • Train and coach plant employees to perform at their highest level
  • Safely operate company vehicles, tooling, and equipment
  • Actively support and lead Company initiatives related to safety and employee development

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of maintaining a safe work culture
  • 3-5 years of practical experience with aggregate production processes, including plant/crushing operations
  • 1-2 years of experience leading and managing employees preferred
  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and highly motivated requiring minimal direct guidance
  • Basic computer skills using MS Office and similar programs
  • MSHA certification or ability to obtain certification required
  • Valid drivers’ license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; Class B commercial license preferred
  • Ability to lead and motivate others; prior experience effectively managing a team preferred
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, problem-solve, and work under consistent pressure of deadlines

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety policies
  • Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery
  • Occasionally required to work from heights
  • Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions and loud noises; including frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
