The Quality Control Technician is responsible for testing and inspection of all aggregate products produced and delivered to internal and exteral customers; ensures systems are established and maintaied, and staff is trained to meet high quality product standards; coordinates quaility control activites with other functions such as marketing, customer service, production planning, testing and new product development. The Technician 1 Level is an entry-level role; candidates will have up to 2 years of experinence, Associate's degree is preferred but not required, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Main Responsibilities


  • Support the Barrett safety culture and other company strategic initiatives.
  • Read, understand, and have a good working knowledge of the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction/aggregate/asphalt industry.
  • Assess effectiveness and maximize productivity and quality opportunties that lead to continuous improvement.
  • Communicate across all departments to enchance the teamwork essential to consistently producing quality products.
  • Inspect products for quality, identity and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Ensure that accurate test results are reported daily and on time to supervisor.
  • Review and analyze test results to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications as required.
  • Ensure all quality control operations and activities are conducted in conformance with company policies, regulatory agencies and acceptable working practices are in compliance with standards.
  • Recommend measures to improve quality control methods, equipment, performance, service, safety and quality of products. 
  • Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups. 
  • Operates company vehicle to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary


Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience:


  • 0-2 years of technical quality control experience and/or equivalent combination of education and expereince required; associates degree in related field optional.
  • 0-2 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control testing aggregates and asphalt preferred. 
  • Knowledge of applicable reference and testing material manuals and specifications governed by federal, state and local testing agencies, to include DOT, ASTM and AASHTO standards.
  • HMA/DOT testing certified, or ability to become certified within 1 year; other certifications may be required. 
  • Basic computer skills including use of MS Office products.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain clean driving record required


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:


  • Wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) required
  • Regulary required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Frequently exposed to all weather conditions
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrian
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors; noise exposure varies from quiet to loud
  • Frequent exposure to working around moving equipment and machinery
  • Frequent exposure to dust, airborne particles, etc.
