Summary:

Assists with coordination of plant and area ready-mix operations, including trucking dispatch, quality control, customer service, and general operations administration.

 

Highly qualified candidates will have prior experience in aggregate, ready-mix, and/or asphalt production plant operations, dispatching, and general operations administration.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with frequently changing deadlines, while providing a positive customer experience.

Responsibilities:

Assists with coordinating daily operations while ensuring safety, environmental, regulatory and production targets are met; this includes compliance with company policies, and applicable federal/state/local regulations; and maintaining effective relationships with other employees, internal/external customers/suppliers, and local/state/federal representatives.  This position performs job duties in the following areas, in addition to other projects/tasks as assigned:

 

Dispatch/Plant Operations
•    Establishes delivery schedules according to factors such as truck capacities, distances to delivery site, and unloading time; assigns drivers for scheduled deliveries
•    Maintains radio contact with drivers to expedite deliveries
•    Coordinates loading of aggregates into plant supply bins, including operating a loader as required
•    Batches concrete loads, ensuring consistency of mix is maintained according to specifications; this includes climbing truck ladders to inspect loads as required
•    Assists with inventory maintenance, and places raw materials orders as required to meet demand
•    Assist with hiring, training, and developing employees to perform at their highest level 

 

Quality Control
•    Performs quality control functions including measuring air, slump, and aggregate gradations in accordance with mix design requirements.
•    Performs site visits to perform quality control checks 
•    Safely operates company vehicles, tools, and equipment to perform duties related to the role

 

Office Administration/Sales
•    Answers phones and provides information to internal and external customers
•    Coordinates and maintains records and files.  Completes all required company reports in a timely manner
•    Opens, sorts, and distributes daily mail
•    Quotes prices and receives orders for company products such as ready mix concrete, aggregate, and miscellaneous resale products
•    Prepares invoices, delivery tickets, and related shipping documents; maintains related records
•    Receives cash payments for shipments from drivers and prepares reports of cash and charge sales
•    Makes site visits related to sales and customer relationship follow-up
•    Makes collection calls on accounts

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience:

•    1-3 years of practical experience working in an aggregate production or similar environment; ready-mix experience preferred
•    1-3 years of practical experience with truck dispatching in a similar environment preferred
•    ACI Level I Testing Certifications and NDOT Concrete Plant Technician Certifications preferred;  ability to obtain certification within first year required
•    Self-directed, results-oriented, and highly motivated requiring minimal direct guidance
•    Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups of people
•    Ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment with frequent deadlines
•    Basic computer skills using MS Office and similar programs; experience using plant batch and/or dispatching programs a plus
•    Valid drivers’ license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; Class B or A Commercial License preferred

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety policies
•    Required to work for extended periods from a seated position using a computer in an office environment
•    Required to perform intermittent work outdoors in a batch plant and/or construction site environment
•    Required to safety operate various vehicles and equipment related to requirements of the role
•    Regular work in areas with moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery
•    Regularly required to climb ladders and perform work from heights
•    Exposure to all outdoor weather conditions and loud noises; including exposure to chemicals, dust and airborne particles
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
