Summary

Our Mechanics play a key role in keeping things running by performing repairs, maintenance, and service on electric, diesel, and gasoline company vehicles and equipment, maintaining maintenance records and performing DOT inspections.  This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong mechanical aptitude, experience performing repair work on heavy industrial/construction equipment, who is looking for a safe, challenging and rewarding environment with opportunity for growth. 

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs including use of engine diagnostic equipment
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
  • Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications
  • Reads and understands operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings as necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment
  • Installs new ignition systems, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts
  • Overhauls gas or diesel engines; tests to ensure operating efficiency
  • Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and makes adjustments
  • Cleans, lubricates and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
  • Fabricates special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings
  • Cleans tools and working area
  • High and low voltage electrical trouble shooting and repairs
  • Performs other routine duties such as building maintenance, equipment hauling, and equipment operation

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience

  • Certificate in Diesel Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic preferred
  • Experience performing U.S. DOT vehicle and brake inspections and adjustments preferred
  • Class CDL A with Tanker & Hazmat Endorsement preferred or ability to obtain within 60 days and clean driving history 
  • ASE Certification preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

Physical Requirements/Working Condidtions

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required
  • Regularly required to lift and /or move between 25 and 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Occasionally required lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
  • Standing/working on feet for long periods (8 hours or more), and walking across uneven terrain
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise produced by machinery and equipment
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes, chemicals, or airborne particles

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation*:      $19-$22/hour DOE
*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual’s qualifications, education, and experience relative to the role.
