Joining our subsidiary SCPR in La Réunion as Quantity surveyor in 2006, Sarah is now a Study designer. On a daily basis, she is responsible for drawing up and updating the plans for our various SCPR sites: circulation, layout of pre-fabrication factories, rehabilitation once the works are finished... For our customers, she draws up detailed plans of their buildings and estimates the structural work, taking into account the techniques specific to SCPR products and the economic constraints imposed. A mission completed in team with other departments of the company (Management, laboratory, sales department, QSE, equipment, production). What she is proud of? “Being an actor in the development of my island and working in a company committed to my side! I dedicate my personal time to the Federation of Hospital Reception Centers to allow parents of sick children to stay with them. The SCPR supports the project by participating in the construction of these Houses. It really matters to me!”. Moreover, Sarah's favorite leitmotif is by Henry Ford: “Coming together is a beginning; staying together is progress; working together is a success”. Or the Reunion Creole version “Ensemb, ti pa ti pa, nou va arrive.
 

I manage five quarries and a trading platform in two départements," explains this dynamic employee who joined the Group in 2008. When one of the quarry sites in the Pyrenees was expanded, he was required to compensate for the clearing of land. Two options were available: financial compensation, which was less expensive and more practical, or planting new trees to replace the forest land. The company opted for the latter solution: "the choice of reason!" he says. Relying on the expertise of the French Office National des Forêts (ONF), 3.5 hectares were reforested in the commune of Lortet, 8 km from the limestone quarry, in addition to the reforesting efforts already undertaken over previous years. " Everything has been studied to make the new woods a sustainable area that respects the local environment, from the choice of tree species to the protection of young plants" he explains. In addition, the decision was made to use real horsepower for planting and maintenance! Two horses pull a plow to bed the ferns, for example, which means that the soil is less compacted and no fossil fuel is needed. "Quarry work has very strong local ties to the land, Romain underlines. Damaging our working environment would be to detrimental, which is why adopting a sustainable approach is essential.
 

Peter joined the Miller Group, our subsidiary specializing in road construction in Ontario, in 2005. Although his job and responsibilities have evolved over time, his field has always been aggregate sales. Managing a team of sales reps, he is responsible for planning activities and financial reviews. He spends much of his time identifying new product lines and supply sources, with a view to reinforcing his company’s range of services. He really appreciates the entrepreneurial spirit at the Miller Group, and “this hybrid approach that manages to reconcile the traditional values of a family company and the support of a major group since Miller Group joined Colas.” For him, it is a great advantage to be able to speak to people based all over the world. Proactive, Peter believes that knowing your own strengths and enjoying your work are essential for professional fulfillment. “When it comes down to it, both the employee and the company benefit; it’s a win-win situation.
 

Auris-en-Oisans, a small town near Grenoble, France, is where Guillaume works. Basin manager in charge of the Isère and Savoie sectors for CMCA, he is in charge of the production and recycling of materials within his scope. “Doing this job is like running a small business!” he explains. From writing up a ten-year business plan to the day-to-day managment of teams and clients, Guillaume has had an eye on everything that impacts the proper functioning of his area since 2013. Good relations with specialized customers, often from the public works and building sector, are an integral part of his daily life. At the head of a team of some 20 people, he enjoys his role as a manager and the leeway his own managers have given him. “Our job doesn't change every day, but our products, customers and standards do. This forces us to reinvent ourselves, and to move forward" says Guillaume. The application of QSE measures, often going far beyond the standards in force, illustrates the positive initiatives that are transforming the business. “Working in natural sites such as quarries is a boon, and preserving them, a responsibility,” concludes Guillaume.
 

After joining Sintra in 2018 as an Accountant, Katherine is now Project Manager Aggregates. “My job is to estimate the need for materials on construction sites for the coming year in order to anticipate their production but also to assess projects for new quarries or new equipment in the area. I work with the Sales Department to develop market analysis, commercial action plans and follow the progress of the yearly objectives.” Katherine notably worked on the project to connect a quarry to the electricity grid, ultimately saving 500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions compared to a generator supply. “Beyond the assignments, what I like about the Group is the fact that my colleagues are definitely friends. When one of them has a problem, I support them, and vice versa! People that join us needs to be passionate and a team player!
