RAMS Engineer

The RAMS Engineer is responsible for the development, analysis, and verification of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) principles throughout the project lifecycle. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that systems and subsystems meet established RAMS requirements and targets. The engineer will conduct thorough analyses to assess the performance of systems, identifying potential risks and areas for improvement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspection of Installation Activities: Designers must oversee that site activities align with project specifications and drawings, ensuring proper implementation.

  • Equipment Compliance: It is essential to conduct tasks that verify the equipment meets the required operational properties.

  • Material Inspection Stages:

    • Document Review: Inspect supplier documentation to confirm the materials meet quality standards.
    • Factory Acceptance Test (FAT): Ensure the manufacturing facility adheres to quality standards as per the documentation.
    • Material Quality Assessments: Conduct regular inspections on incoming materials from vendors and outgoing products destined for shipping.
  • Test Inspection Participation: Designers should engage in relevant T&C activities to document test results accurately.

  • RAMS Development Participation: Designers must contribute to the development of RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) entities by performing analyses according to prescribed processes and customer-specific requirements.

  • Compliance with QCD Commitments: Deliver RAMS analyses that meet the commitments related to Quality, Cost, and Delivery.

  • RAMS Performance Assessment: Participate in evaluating the RAMS performance of systems and subsystems, proactively identifying RAMS requirements necessary to meet targets.

  • Technical Understanding of CR Subsystems: Gain a comprehensive understanding of Critical Requirements (CR) subsystems to enhance RAMS performance assessments and identify improvement areas.

  • Proactive Analysis of RAMS Data: Maintain a critical perspective on RAMS data and results to improve the quality and consistency of RAMS studies.

  • Client Requirements Tracking: Analyze and monitor client requirements, including tender technical documents, to ensure design compliance. Propose innovative or corrective solutions when necessary.

  • Activity Reporting: Regularly report on activities, including progress, variations, and technical issues, to management.

Education Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)

Desired Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Engineering background (or equivalent) with 9 years minimum of total experience (with evidence of leadership on at least 1 large railway project)
  • Knowledge of RAMS engineering methodologies, railway standards (such as EN50126, EN50128, EN50129, NFPA130…) and tools
  • Awareness of the technical state of the art and standards within the following railway areas: civil & architecture, rolling stock, signaling power supply (HVS, MV/LV), electromechanical (air treatment and smoke extraction, lifts, escalators, fire protection, dry column…), telecom (ticketing, PA, CCTV, intrusion access control, fire detection…), SCADA and track
  • Microsoft Office and Outlook proficiency
  • Electronic Document Management tool

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English (Arabic and French proficiency is a plus)
  • Understand internal, stakeholders and external (client and authorities) interlocutor’ expectations to redefine/clarify the needs, propose adequate solutions and adapt his communication and presentations
  • Strong negotiation skills, self−motivated, rigorous, and very good organization skills
  • Ability to integrate into a multicultural and multidisciplinary team\
