Job Title:          Apprentice/Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic

Job Location:  Greater Edmonton Region

Reports to:       Shop Foreman

Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Apprentice or Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of Heavy Duty Equipment, as well as promote and participate in Goal Zero Initiative. The ideal candidate will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as have the ability to repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components.

 

Please note that 3rd or 4th year apprentices with relevant heavy equipment experience will also be considered for this position.

Main Responsibilities

  • Positively participate in company safety and 6S program and adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and maintain heavy duty equipment, on and off road.
  • Able to perform complete repair and overhaul functions in a timely manner
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance

  • Installation of new and added-on equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Other mechanical repair work as required.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Ability to meet all safety requirements including a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and pre- employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.

Experience/Education

  • Must hold a Red Seal Journeyman’s certificate
  • Experience working with on/off road fleets would be an asset
  • Ability to perform Commercial Vehicle Inspections with certification would be an asset
  • Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license. Class 3 with Air Endorsement would be an asset

Working Conditions

  • Travel to off-site locations will be required.
  • Overtime as required, including potential weekend shifts
  • Participation in an on-call rotation during summer and winter seasons
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
  • Be willing to work various shifts, including day and night shifts, as well out-of-town rotations
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements, including passing pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • May need to meet the requirements for Mask/Respirator Fit Test
  • Must operate within a 6S facility environment
