Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated HR Intern to support our Human Resources team and gain hands on experience across recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, training and development, HR data management and HR communications. Reporting to the Human Resource Business Partner and partnering with HR Generalists, the HR Intern will help ensure HR programs run smoothly while contributing to a positive employee experience and continuous improvement of HR practices.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Prepare and post job advertisements across online boards, social media and print channels.
  • Manage and help grow employer branding on company social media pages.
  • Review applicant resumes against job requirements and assist with applicant shortlisting.
  • Conduct pre-screening phone/video interviews and reference checks as required.
  • Maintain applicant tracking records and job posting databases.
  • Support new hire start‑up meetings and assist HR Generalists during onboarding activities.
  • Assist with drafting and reviewing employment agreements and job descriptions.

 

Benefits, Policies & HR Administration

  • Distribute employee benefits, pension materials and change forms; support administration of benefit programs.
  • Support maintenance of employee personnel files and HR databases with strict confidentiality.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of company policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely responses to routine employee enquiries and support overall employee satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Development

  • Assist with development and coordination of training programs and materials, including training manuals and education content.
  • Help draft employee and company communications related to training and HR initiatives.
  • Support tracking and reporting of training participation and outcomes.

 

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Gather, clean and sort HR data for statistical and audit purposes.
  • Support regular HR audits and data integrity checks.
  • Contribute ideas and support projects to improve HR processes and employee experience.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating employee social events and promotional activities.

 

Health, Safety & Teamwork

  • Promote and follow the company’s safety program and hazard assessment processes.
  • Participate as a collaborative team member and provide other administrative support as required.
  • Comply with the company’s Code of Ethics and drug & alcohol testing policies.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Certifications        

  • High-School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of, or enrollment in, a Human Resources program.
  • Interest in pursuing the Certified Human Resources Professional designation.

                                                                                                             

Work Experience       

  • 0-2 years of related HR or administrative experience preferred
  • Experience working for a construction company is an asset

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills with ability to manage schedule both virtually and in office
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn new software including JDE, SAP, and Heavy Job
  • Knowledge of employment related legislation; ability to be resourceful and research information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across various organizational levels
  • Strong work ethic and a deep commitment to maintaining confidentiality

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive, high-volume work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Work is performed indoors and may include a combination of standing, sitting and walking
  • Sitting for extended periods of time is required
  • Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals.
