Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President, Western Canada, this role is accountable for delivering laboratory excellence that supports operations, customers, and long-term business performance across the region.

 

What This Role Is Accountable For, the Laboratory Manager is accountable for:

· Confidence in results — laboratory data, mix designs, and reports that are accurate, compliant, and defensible
· Capability of the team — a skilled, engaged laboratory workforce with strong safety and quality ownership
· Operational excellence — laboratory systems, equipment, and processes that perform consistently and withstand audit scrutiny

· Laboratory testing consistently supports Western Canada operations with minimal rework, delays, or escalations
· Audit and inspection outcomes demonstrate strong compliance, documentation discipline, and equipment readiness
· Lab Supervisors and Technicians demonstrate technical confidence, accountability, and visible safety leadership
· New or improved testing methods, workflows, or technologies have been successfully implemented
· Operations, Engineering, and customers view the laboratory as a trusted, solutions-oriented partner

Key Leadership Outcomes

· Lead day-to-day laboratory operations supporting QA/QC testing for hot mix, cold mix, FDR, and asphalt emulsions
· Review, validate, and approve test results, mix designs, and technical documentation
· Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose
· Maintain strong documentation control, data integrity, and sample management practices
· Champion laboratory health and safety and ensure alignment with corporate and regulatory requirements
· Support budgeting, capital planning, and prioritization of laboratory resources
· Provide technical insight and decision support to the Regional Vice President and cross-functional partners

 

What You Bring

· Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
· 7+ years of progressive laboratory or materials testing experience, including people leadership
· Strong technical knowledge of asphalt materials, mix design, and road construction principles
· Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and deliver consistent quality outcomes
· Strong understanding of laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and audit expectations
· Clear, confident communication and technical writing skills
· A leadership approach grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement
· Strong organizational discipline and attention to detail
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory data systems
