Position Summary

The role of the Driver is to be responsible for the safe transport, delivery, loading and unloading of asphalt products.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

•    Transport asphalt products safely.
•    Driver must keep daily logs & adhere to DOT driving regulations, including hours of service regulations in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
•    Responsible for the loading, unloading & delivery of all liquid asphalt products.
•    Must follow all policies & procedures for loading & unloading. This includes smoking, cell phones, facial hair etc. as acknowledged in the McAsphalt Driver Policies & Procedures handbook.
•    Responsible for conducting daily inspection of equipment & reporting of any major/minor defects. Responsible for ensuring equipment is in good condition at all times.
•    Required to keep proper documentation of all necessary paperwork (i.e. delivery, last contained, insurance, ownership etc.).
•    Responsible for properly labeling the trailer with correct hazardous materials place cards.
•    Drivers are responsible to follow all safety regulations & ensure proper PPE is worn.
•    Follow proper emergency procedure in the event of a spill or accident.
•    Tank rinsing when dealing with different products.

 

Qualifications

•    Must have a commercial Class 1 driver’s license.
•    Tanker experience is preferred.
•    Must be able to work independently.
•    Must have TDG, CPPI & WHMIS certifications.
•    Must pass DOT hazmat physical, drug and alcohol screening, and a detailed background check.
•    Mechanical aptitude required.

 

Working Conditions

•    Climbing ladders and flights of stairs.
•    Turning valves.
•    Driving for up to 13 hours per day.
•    Inspecting equipment – Crawling under and climbing on to tractors and trailers.
•    Loading hoses and fittings on to and off of trailers.
•    Standing out in the elements while loading and unloading trailers.

 

Physical Requirements

•    Able to lift 30 lbs. to waist height
•    Able to sit for long periods of time.
•    Able to stand for long periods of time.
•    Able to climb ladders.
•    Able to bend, turn, or twist while manipulating equipment.
•    Able to have arms elevated to chest height for long periods of time while manipulating a steering wheel and/or a gear shifter.
•    Able to manipulate your feet for long periods of time while operating pedals.
•    Able to work long hours.
•    Able to work in any weather / environmental condition (heat, rain, snow, etc.). 

 

Compensation

$36.33 for hourly work + Overtime
0.0.5 per KM for Hwy
Average yearly will be 80k plus over time
