About the Role:

In this role, you will be responsible for testing and inspecting ready-mix materials such as concrete aggregates, ready mix, and soil cement to ensure they meet or exceed customer standards and project specifications. You will play a crucial role in maintaining quality control throughout our civil construction projects.

You will report directly to the Quality Control Supervisor, and in their absence, to the Quality Control Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and prepare concrete samples and carry out testing at the batch plant and on-site in line with our Quality Control System.
  • Develop and prepare Concrete Mix Designs.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with Batchmen and the Quality Control Supervisor about any material issues.
  • Collaborate to adjust batch proportions based on test results.
  • Receive and respond to feedback from Ready Mix drivers and field Quality Assurance to handle any out-of-specification Ready Mix loads.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data control for test results and production data in compliance with Standard Generals QMS policies.
  • Keep laboratory and equipment clean and well-maintained.
  • Operate safely and promote a strong safety culture in line with company policies.
  • Uphold the Colas Code of Ethics at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as requested.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in quality control or a similar field, with at least 2 years focused on concrete mix design preferred.
  • Experience in sampling and testing concrete and aggregates is highly desirable.
  • Valid CCIL / CSA / ACI equivalent concrete testing certification, with current certification card.
  • Solid understanding of CSA A283 and CSA A23.2 standards.
  • Civil Engineering Technologist designation is an asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and compliance with company Alcohol and Drug Policy.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-oriented approach.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kilograms (50 pounds).
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
