The Construction Operations Manager is accountable for the full range of operations of Sully-Miller Contracting, including overall management in the areas of safety, production and quality. This position is functionally responsible for overseeing, planning, coordinating and controlling civil construction projects.  Provide ground level support on a wide variety of projects and initiatives, which includes operations management, cost control and time management, quality control, contract administration, employee relations and safety.

Main Responsibilities


  • Coordinate and direct all business activity for construction operations
  • Collaborate with Area Managers, Project Managers and Superintendents to determine the efficient use of labor, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects on time, on budget
  • Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget, schedule, and contract specifications.
  • Troubleshoot project concerns such as weather, scheduling conflicts, quality control issues, labor issues, contractor and/or client concerns and other unforeseeable matters
  • Examine QA/QC reports and liaise with Quality Control Department to ensure quality control requirements are met
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by integrating quality into all processes
  • Be a champion for the Company’s safety program - encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt a safety culture
  • Monitor overall safety, quality, and production
  • Analyze and appraise the effectiveness of all operations in order to meet annual financial objectives
  • Ensure that corporate policies, procedures, organizational structure, and safety procedures are followed by construction personnel
  • Assume responsibility for on-going process improvement and procedure development for division.
  • Assist in the development of new business strategies for creating and improving processes.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports as required by the General Manager

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management, construction technology or an equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction management, craft supervision, and/or engineering related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze complex information
  • Knowledge of scheduling software including P6 and MS Project
  • Asphalt and concrete paving experience
  • Experience with the installation of underground utilities
  • Civil structure experience preferred
