Job Summary
The Dozer Operator is responsible for operating a dozer, preferably a Kamatsu D87 or Cat D7R. Physically fit in order to perform manual labour and work extended/long hours. Meet and support all company safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
Key Responsibilities
• Operating dozer grading equipment to fine grade, spread and push piles of sand, soil, and aggregate materials.
• Operate the dozer (and other heavy equipment) in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Understand, interpret, and follow directions from the foreman.
• Drive the dozer on successive passes over construction surface to raise or lower terrain to specified grade, following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
• Use the dozer to level soil, move rocks and other debris, and scoop soil.
• Ensure dozer is in the correct gear, and is not moving too fast for working conditions.
• Demonstrate an understanding of grades and interpret plans and drawings.
• Operate other heavy equipment as needed.
• Follow all legislative, and company safety policies.
• Oversee condition of vehicle, maintenance, and repair reports.
• Other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Certifications
• Must have a valid Class 5 (or better) driver’s license with clean drivers abstract.
• Own transportation.
Work Experience
• Minimum 2 year experience.
Technical Skills
• Must be able to perform heavy manual labour under adverse weather conditions.
• Familiarity with the materials, tools and machinery used.
• Knowledge of the road construction industry.
• Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
• Must be able to communicate well with co-workers.
• Most be able to work under pressure.
• Ability to work cooperatively independently and with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
Working Conditions
Overtime as required.
• Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, grease, fumes, odors, oil, asphalt, and toxic and flammable substances.
• The ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time.
• Required to perform tasks that involve heavy lifting, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs regularly.
• Use of personal protection equipment is required.
• Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear required when working outdoors.
• Must be able to work outdoors in areas that are dusty and/or dirty.
• Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
• Must comply with all company policies.
