Highway Maintenance Foreperson

Alberta Highway Services Ltd. will be providing maintenance services to Alberta Transportation on the Southwest Calgary Ring Road in Calgary beginning Oct 1, 2020. This section of the SWCRR includes 31km of six and eight lane divided freeway, 14 interchanges, 3 river crossings and a total of 51 bridge structures. Crews dedicated to maintaining these roadways will work out of our Brand New Facility located in Southwest Calgary. Operations, based on 24/7/365 manpower coverage, include snow and ice control, (plowing, sanding and salting) summer grass, drainage and weed control, surface repairs, bridge maintenance, overhead lighting and traffic signals, line painting and maintenance of signs, guardrails and traffic accommodation at accident sites.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

We are looking for reliable individuals who will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work crews doing the day to day operations of the SWCRR.  As a Highway Foreperson you will be responsible for overseeing two crews including their training and ensuring they comply with company policies, procedures, and all legislation. The co-ordination of plow trucks and other winter operations, the co-ordination of all other highway maintenance work including emergency traffic control, day to day liaison with our contractors, the travelling public, and city officials, as well as daily invoicing, ordering, and time card entry.  In doing so you will be providing essential services by ensuring the effective and efficient operations can be completed.

Requirements:

• • A minimum of 5 years Highway Maintenance experience and 3 years of Supervisory experience
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 3 or 1 with Air Brakes) with a recent 5 years abstract with reliable  transportation
  • Strong computer and organization skills
  • Sound interpersonal, planning, prioritization, and delegating skills
  • Must be able to work long shifts up to 12hrs on a rotating 7 on / 7 off schedule
  • Must be able to respond after hours to emergencies
  • Able to work in uncertain outdoor conditions and be able to work overtime hours when required
  • Have a willingness to work physically in a team environment by assisting co-workers with other duties as needed
  • Must be able to write, read and communicate effectively in English
  • Experience with ensureing employees comply with all legislation, safety regulations and safe practices
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment fit and drug/alcohol testing including post incident
