Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Purchaser with a strong background in the construction industry. The Purchaser will be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for construction materials and services. This role ensures that all purchases are cost-effective, delivered on time to project sites, and compliant with company policies and budget requirements. The ideal candidate will coordinate closely with the operation and suppliers to support successful project executions.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supplier Management: 
1.    Demonstrate commitment to company policies, procedures, guidelines and initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, Ethics, Goal Zero, and Core Values of Safety, Growth, Integrity, Quality and Collaboration.
2.    Source and purchase construction materials and onsite services needed for projects at construction sites on time and in the required quantities. 
3.    Building and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, evaluate vendor performance, and develop a reliable network of qualified vendors for ongoing and future needs. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors to secure the best value for the company. 
4.    Process and review incoming goods and services to ensure they match the corresponding POs and delivery receipts by exercising Three-Way Matching principle and work with suppliers to quickly resolve any prices, quantity or quality discrepancies, ensuring that issues are corrected before sending invoices for vouchering.
5.    Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and vendor communications. Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and audit requirements. 
6.    Support Accounting team for month end closing process as well as the Share Service Group for any outstanding invoice vouchering issues.
7.    Liaise with Colas Western Canada Procurement team.
8.    Other duties as may be required.

 

Cost Control & Budget Compliance: 
1.    Monitor purchasing activities to ensure all procurement stays within established project budgets. 
2.    Review quotes and invoices to confirm costs align with budget constraints.
3.    Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities (such as bulk purchasing or alternate suppliers) and implement value-added ideas without compromising quality, helping to improve overall project profitability.

 

Qualifications & Experience
•    Proven experience in procurement or purchasing within the construction industry (3-5 years), with a strong understanding of construction project needs and timelines.
•    Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or equivalent certification in procurement/supply chain management is preferred.
•    Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is essential. In addition, familiarity with JD Edwards Software and OnBase would be an asset.
•    Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools as needed.
•    Strong analytical skills to evaluate supplier quotes, compare pricing, and assess cost-benefit for purchase decisions.
•    Excellent negotiation skills to establish favorable pricing and contract terms with suppliers.
•    Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with the operation, suppliers, and finance team. Ability to clearly convey requirements to vendors and resolve issues professionally.
•    Familiarity with construction materials, equipment, and supply chain processes, including lead times for key items and factors that can affect availability (such as seasonality or market fluctuations). 
•    Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and confidentiality
•    High attention to detail - reviewing orders, contracts, and invoices.
