Mission

 

Delta’s internship program is designed to provide first-hand exposure to industry operations, as well as 1:1 mentorship and networking opportunities to students in order to supplement college educational programs in the areas of business, engineering, and construction management.  Students in the program have the opportunity to work in various administrative and operational areas, contribute to company goals through completion of focused project work, and apply concepts learned in the classroom to business operations.

Main Responsibilities

 

•   Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
•   Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies 
•   Assist with managing the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
•   Assist with compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level; recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
•   Routinely inspect the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
•   Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed
•   Interpret safety regulations related to projects
•   Assist with coordination and presentation of safety training to support company programs including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, etc.
•   Collaborate with OSHA/MSHA (state or federal) officials/inspectors in the event or a site visit

Education

 

•    Actively pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study
•    Valid Driver’s License and acceptable MVR required

Skills

 

•    Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and of MSHA/OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills
•    Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
•    Strong organizational, time management, and written/verbal communication skills
•    Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
•    The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
•    Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
•    Familiar with air monitor calibrations, fit testing, etc.
•    OSHA 30Hr/10Hr certification is preferred

Physical Requirements

 

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to use hands to feel,  handle and manipulate objects
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
•    Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
•    Frequently work in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery, exposure to loud noise
•    Frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all weather conditions
