Job Summary:
Responsible for operation of a fixed or mobile Asphalt Plant
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
• Supports the Simon safety culture and other Company initiatives
• Coordinates and ensures safe operation of plant and components
• Provides direction and mentorship to plant ground crew and equipment operators related to daily operations of plant
• Adjusts manual and computer-aided controls and/or or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges
• Use computer system to enter and maintain data, handle dispatch schedule, prepare reports, and respond to e-mail correspondence
• Assists internal and external customers with ordering
• Optimally communicates with customers and drivers in person, over the phone, and on company radio channels
• Reviews and processes orders ensure accurate material mixes are being delivered; prepares invoices, delivery tickets, and related shipping documents
• Ensures adequate material and supplies are on-hand to meet plant production goals
• Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication
• Assists with general housekeeping and plant maintenance including repair and replacement of valves, motors, bearings, gaskets, shafts, gauges, etc.; climbs tank ladders to read gauges and/or perform maintenance tasks
• Maintains accurate operational, inspection, and maintenance records
• Completes and submits daily production reports
• Coordinates tear down, transfer and re-assembly of mobile plant (if applicable)
• Travels to job site/mobile plant site locations as necessary
• Safely operates company equipment, tooling, and vehicles
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid drivers’ license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; commercial license preferred
Skills:
• 3-5 years of experience in asphalt operations and/or construction industry preferred
• 1-2 years of experience in a supervisory role preferred
• Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers and establish relationships
• Self-directed, hard-working, and highly motivated, requiring minimal direct guidance
• Ability to lead and empower others
• Ability to effectively prioritize, problem-solve, and work under consistent pressure of deadlines
• Basic computer skills, including use of MS Office products
Physical Requirements:
• Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
• Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
• Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
• Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain; may require some work performed from heights of 50’ or more
• Frequent exposure to loud noise
• Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
• Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
