Job Summary:

Reads and interprets plans and proposals, specifications, and other documentation to prepare bid quotes; coordinates bonds, insurance, subcontractors, and monitors bidding processes.
 

Main Responsibilities:

•    Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
•    Support, promote, and practice the Company’s core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies 
•    Order, read, and interpret plans and proposals; review preliminary drawings and specifications
•    Assist with preparation of project-cost summaries, standard estimating forms (bids) and related contracts for submission in accordance with deadlines
•    Assist project engineers, project managers, and other estimators with estimating practices
•    Participate in project setup and handoffs with project managers and superintendents
•    Follow standard processes related to preparation of construction estimates, bids, and quotes 
•    Perform material quantity take-offs 
•    Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain necessary quotes 
•    Participate in bid review meetings with project owner and/or owner’s representatives
•    Assist with development of preliminary project schedules and identify critical phases 
•    Assist with presentation of completed estimates to senior management and project owners
•    Follow-up with project owners on submitted bids and report bid results to management
•    Assist with review and analysis of completed projects to compare estimated to actual costs; identify discrepancies
•    Assist with maintaining data in bid software and related programs
•    Assist with market analysis tasks, including tracking volumes and backlogs of main competitors 
•    Coordinate with other regions as needed related to bid processes 
•    Perform other duties and complete projects as assigned

Education:

•    Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, similar field, and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience
•    Valid Driver’s License and clean driving history required

Skills:

•    3+ years of experience estimating highway paving, bridge construction, utility, and similar projects preferred; background in heavy highway, municipal, and/or commercial construction a plus
•    Proficiency in use of computers and mobile devices (Android/iOS), including MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.); experience with HCSS, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam and/or similar programs a plus
•    Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical diagrams, financial data, and related documentation
•    Ability to plan work and work under pressure of deadlines
•    Ability to problem-solve and employ critical thinking skills
•    Ability to collaborate with team members at all levels in the organization

 

Physical Requirements:

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines
•    Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
•    Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; visiting work sites may require walking over uneven terrain and some exposure to dust, chemicals, and loud noise
•    Frequently required to sit for long periods at a desk using a computer
•    Exposed to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all types of weather
•    Regularly required to operate a vehicle to travel to and from work sites
•    Some overnight travel away from home may be required to visit project sites
