Job Summary:

Performs various tasks to assist the sales and logistics operations in reaching long and short-term goals.


Simon’s internship program is designed to provide first-hand exposure to industry operations, as well as 1:1 mentorship and networking opportunities to students in order to supplement college educational programs in the areas of business, engineering, and construction management.  Students in the program have the opportunity to work in various administrative and operational areas, contribute to company goals through completion of focused project work, and apply concepts learned in the classroom to business operations.

Main Responsibilities:

•    Monitor industry websites in an effort to keep informed of bid opportunities beneficial to Simon Materials
•    Learn telecommunication skills necessary to foster healthy customer and prospect relationships
•    Participate in customer visits and prospecting calls with Sales Manager
•    Gather trucking tickets from internal and external units in order to support the logistics reconciliation process
•    Work with Sales Manager to gain a general understanding of forecasting, budgeting and P&L statements
•    Acquire an understanding of best practices/processes for handling customer concerns
•    Perform additional duties as the Sales Manager sees applicable and beneficial to individual grown and team support

Education:

•    Enrollment in relevant degree program, including business administration, supply chain management, operations management, or industrial engineering  
•    Valid Driver’s License and clean driving history required

Skills:

•    Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal direct supervision
•    Skill using computer programs, including but not limited to standard office applications, CRM software, databases, etc.
•    Ability to problem-solve and resolve issues in an efficient and effective manner
•    Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and represent the Company in a professional manner
•    Business/financial acumen and understanding of basic accounting concepts

Physical Requirements:

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines
•    Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
•    Frequently required to sit for long periods at a desk using a computer
•    Occasional work in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery, exposure to loud noise
•    Occasional exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust, chemicals, and all weather conditions
•    May be required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
