Job Summary
Provides accurate and timely surveying support for utility, concrete, and paving construction projects.
Main Responsibilities
- Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
- Support, promote, and practice the Company’s core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
- Conduct surveys and measurements to determine precise locations, elevations, and dimensions of projects
- Develop survey plans and ensure accuracy of field measurements; maintain survey data files and drawings
- Utilize survey equipment such as total stations, GPS, and laser scanners to accurately capture project data
- Perform calculations and analysis of survey data to prepare reports and deliverables
- Provide guidance and direction to construction crews on layout and setting of construction projects
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met
- Maintain survey equipment and ensuring proper calibration and maintenance
- Assist with construction operations and other projects as assigned
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, surveying, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain clean driving history required
Skills
- 3+ years of surveying experience in heavy civil construction and/or similar environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of surveying principles and techniques
- Experience using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and laser scanners, and related computer software and applications; PaveSmart and Millimeter Paving System experience a plus
- Computer skill, including use of MSOffice 365 Programs (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.), and use of mobile devices
- Ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels, verbally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment under general supervision
Physical Requirements
- Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines
- Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects
- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
- Frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all-weather conditions
- Travel with overnight stays away from home may be required to visit jobsites and/or for meetings and training
