Position Summary

 

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is looking to hire a Shop Administrator based in Crescent Valley, BC. 

 

The Shop Administrator is responsible for the overall productivity, organization, and efficiency of the mobile equipment maintenance facility and its technicians at a single facility. The Shop Administrator is expected to lead continuous improvement actions in the shop, enhance the shop safety program, and improve the overall operation and safety of the mobile equipment maintenance department. The role is primarily responsible for various supervisory tasks, including service scheduling, troubleshooting with technicians, approving work orders, mechanic scheduling, and planning shop consumables and supplies, as well as spares inventory management.

 

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Shop Administrator primarily focuses on administration and leadership activities, rather than performing actual repair work.

Main Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Terus-CWCI health, safety, and environment policies by adhering to these policies and promoting a culture of safety in all activities conducted.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions and audits to promote a safe working environment.
  • Assist in routine inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures, documenting findings and taking corrective actions as necessary to address any compliance issues.
  • Ensure all shop equipment and tools are maintained and in safe working order.
  • Maintain a safe, neat, and orderly warehouse and shop environment, both inside and out.
  • Assist in scheduling and supervising mechanics.
  • Ensure work conducted and equipment complies with company and customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all repairs are performed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, and inventory levels.
  • Responsible for unit breakdown calls and communicating with the Equipment Team.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations and the Shop Supervisor to schedule repairs and reduce downtime on job sites.
  • Create, follow, and close both internal and external work orders and service procedures.
  • Regularly review shop operations to pinpoint areas where processes can be optimized, collecting feedback from technicians and reporting back to the Shop Supervisor.  
  • Work closely with technicians and service centers to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  • Involved in forecasting future equipment replacement and preventative maintenance jobs.
  • Oversee parts inventory and ordering, including purchase order management.
  • Initiate warranty claims, provide warranty information, and schedule warranty work with outside vendors.
  • Ensure annual inspections and preventative maintenance documents are maintained and up to date.
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Shop Supervisor.

Experience and Knowledge Required for the Role

  • High school diploma
  • HD Mechanic certification (strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Heavy equipment/ Commercial/ Fleet maintenance experience (strongly preferred)
  • Must have knowledge of FMCSA regulations
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and practices related to the construction or aggregates industry
  • Oracle JDE knowledge (an asset)
  • Knowledge of cost-effectiveness utilizing company equipment
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a safe driving record (class 1 or 3 an asset)

Profile

The anticipated salary range for this position is minimum $85,000CAD annually. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
