Job Summary

The Safety Management Internship at Barrett Paving Materials Inc. is designed to provide college students with hands-on experience in workplace safety within the aggregates and ready-mix industry. Interns will gain exposure to safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and risk management while contributing to meaningful projects that support both personal development and company objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Safety Specialist in implementing and monitoring the company’s safety program.
  • Learn and apply Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Support safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Compile and analyze safety data, tracking trends and preparing reports.
  • Participate in training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Complete assigned projects that provide value to both the intern and the organization.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to improve safety culture and practices.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of safety regulations and guidelines (MSHA/OSHA preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
