Position Overview
The Digital Transformation and Innovation (DTI) Team is the division leading Colas’ North American operations in a world that is becoming more digital and disrupted by technology every day. The team is focused on the User Experience to maximize the adoption of new innovative solutions to revolutionize business processes through technology. We're a diverse and dynamic group focused on leveraging AI to solve real-world challenges, with a strong emphasis on computer vision and deep learning applications. As a summer intern, you'll collaborate with an experienced team contributing to impactful initiatives that blend creativity and technical expertise.
We are seeking a motivated Summer Intern to support our DTI Team on AI-related projects. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply computer vision and deep learning techniques to develop innovative solutions. The internship will run for approximately 10-12 weeks during the summer (June - August 2026, flexible start date), based in Los Angeles, CA or remote/hybrid depending. This role is ideal for students passionate about AI who want to gain practical experience in a professional setting.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of AI models using computer vision and deep learning frameworks.
- Contribute to data collection, preprocessing, and annotation for training machine learning models.
- Conduct research on state-of-the-art techniques in areas like object detection, image segmentation, and neural networks.
- Collaborate with team members to test and iterate on prototypes, analyzing performance metrics and optimizing algorithms.
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and presentations of project findings.
- Support ad-hoc tasks related to AI project deployment, such as integrating models into existing systems or exploring new tools.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of AI, machine learning, computer vision, and deep learning concepts.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python; experience with libraries like OpenCV, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, or Keras is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with data handling tools (e.g., NumPy, Pandas) and version control (e.g., Git).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Strong communication skills for documenting work and presenting ideas.
- Prior experience with AI projects (e.g., academic coursework, personal projects, or hackathons) is a plus but not required.
- Must be authorized to work in the US (visa sponsorship not available for this internship).
- Pay Rate: $25 - $30/hour (Dependant upon experience).
