STUDENT OPPORTUNITY: 4-month term, commencing May 2026, located in Edmonton, Alberta

 

About the Role:

Colas Canada is offering an Co-Operative Internship opportunity supporting the Health and Safety team by coordinating with the Safety Administrator in training sessions, compiling reports, reviewing policies and procedures, tracking, and analyzing safety statistics, etc. Individuals with excellent attention to details, comfort with moderate levels of repetitive and administrative tasks and strong communication and interpersonal skills will excel in this role. A passion for Safety and Compliance is a must!

The duties will be varied and will focus on tasks required to meet environmental, safety, and design compliance obligations.

Candidates should be physically able to navigate uneven terrain on an active construction site and demonstrate a willingness to learn and contribute to a major infrastructure project.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting health and safety orientations (for employees and sub-contractors)
  • Coordinating with the Safety Administrator training sessions, compiling reports, reviewing policies and procedures
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports and statistical analysis to support the health and safety management system.
  • Tracking and analyzing safety statistics, etc.
  • Planning and helping coordinate health and safety training including but not limited to WHMIS, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, etc.
  • Escalating issues to appropriate levels when required.
  • Providing support to the administration of intranet sites and corporate communication.
  • Supporting the HSE administrator with monthly safety performance reports to management, identify, and highlight trends.
  • Supporting the Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration program by routinely ordering abstracts and entering data.
  •  Assisting with annual updates of health, safety, and environment manuals.
  • Organizing the HSE office layout and maintain the office in good condition.
  • Ordering and organizing office stationery supplies and equipment, as needed.
  • Providing general support to visitors at the HSE office.
  • Required to perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Experience

•    Registered in a Post Secondary Co-Op program. Safety or any other related field of study preferred.
•    Knowledge of HSE and HSE experience in an administrative capacity is an asset.
•    Proficient in administrative activities requiring attention to detail.
•    Experienced with Microsoft Office suite of products.
•    Skilled at solving problems and analyzing data to identify trends.
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
•    Ability to meet deadlines under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
•    Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
•    An organized person with the ability to highlight appropriate issues on time.
•    Self-directed, takes initiative, and ability to perform as part of a team.
•    Positive attitude, professional and reliable.
•    Ability to occasionally work remotely at worksites.
•    Class 5 Drivers license
