Mission
The City of Edmonton selected Marigold Infrastructure Partners to design and build the 14-kilometre Valley Line West LRT project from downtown to Lewis Farms. Construction began in 2021. Marigold is a design-build joint venture agreement between Colas and Parsons. We are looking for an experienced Project/Scope Superintendent who will work closely with the project team to coordinate the project to the satisfaction of the client, consistent with the costs, schedule, and contractual requirements. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordination of all production requirements related to the work, including but not limited to safety, quality, administration, scheduling, cost controls, client/subcontractor/craft communication and management. Heavy civil earthworks, concrete or LRT experience is required.
Responsibilities
• Ensure Construction is in full compliance with the Project Agreement, including matters relating to quality, safety, environment, and life cycle performance, such as Project’s ECO Plan, Health and Safety Plan, and all applicable legislation.
• Interface management between internal and adjacent teams, includes subcontractors.
• Coordinate with other segments to schedule adjacent works ensuring that the enabling functions are performed in accordance with the schedule.
• Ensure maintenance of total quality performance standards, procedures and audit controls to meet project requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of site operations.
• Foster client confidence in project leadership, this is done in the field and in meetings as assigned by your manager.
• Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision, facilitating solutions to inquiries to the design team in cooperation with the Construction Field Coordinators and management group.
• Contribute to the preparation and execution of work plans and work packages, understanding the milestones and what resources are required to accommodate the project demands.
• Direct and ensure completion of work activities on site in accordance with engineering plans.
• Assist in developing cost estimates, reviews and budgets, including contributions to schedule development and efficiency analysis.
• Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, this includes notifications and interaction with the Project Communications Team.
• Ensure budgets are managed and maintained by coordinating material and equipment needs and cost understanding of the materials and equipment ordered.
• Attend daily prestart meetings with the crews, including subcontractors, recording names of attendees, confirm daily tasks and work to be completed.
• Establish and maintain the expected crew hours for specific tasks, ensure that shifts are not overrunning hours and maintain the budget with crew control measures.
• Develop crew resource strategies that account for peaks and valleys in all work cycles and seasons as well as staffing of the crews accordingly (I.E. – apprentice to JM ratio, GF to worker ratio).
• Check and approve time sheets as they are submitted, verify that hours match the intended duration
• Physically maintain an on-site presence to monitor progress, address and manage issues and other site related matters as they arise.
• Full participation in safety deliverables, including but not limited to inspections, near miss reporting, incident investigation, on boarding new staff, JHA/FLHA/SWP development.
• Accountable to management for the team’s safety performance for assigned work scope.
• Ensure that work areas are set up for success with access, routing, parking, and general logistics.
• Work with the Construction Field Coordination team to ensure that concrete, survey, quality, safety and Environmental inspections are booked and executed with accuracy.
• Complete Daily reports in project control software and physical notes.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Completed post-secondary degree or diploma in engineering, construction-related discipline, OR related trade designation and equivalent work experience is an asset
• Minimum of 3 years proven heavy civil construction experience, preferably in LRT or similar public infrastructure projects
• Experience with earthworks, removals, concrete and heavy machinery
• Valid Class 5 license; clean abstract preferred
• Ability to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, steep/ slippery terrain, walking, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather and conditions
