STUDENT OPPORTUNITY: 8-month term, commencing May 2026, located in Edmonton, Alberta 

 

About the Role:

Colas Canada is seeking a Quality Co-Operative Intern to support our Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Team. This team plays a critical role in ensuring the project is built to meet all requirements, codes, and standards. As a QA/QC Co-Op, you will assist with oversight and review of subcontractor documentation and on-site quality control activities. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams (Project Coordinators, Construction Coordinators, Field Review Monitors) and external partners (testing agencies, third parties, subcontractors) to help deliver a high-quality product. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager.

 

The duties will be varied and will focus on tasks/activities required to meet our environmental, safety and design compliance obligations. 
Candidates should be physically able to negotiate terrain on an in-process construction site.

Main Responsibilities

  • Review construction performance to ensure early identification of variances and deficiencies
  • Ensure early identification and documentation of non-conformities through regular surveillance audits, site walkdowns, and other forms of QC activities
  • Support external ISO 9001 regulation and assessment audit programs.
  • Support and assist in all external and internal audits.
  • Support the QA/QC team with reviewing, approving, and developing Inspection and Testing Plans (ITP) and their associated checklists and inspection forms
  • Assist the team with performing and documenting regular surveillance audits to ensure adherence to the ITP program
  • Assist the Field Coordinators with ensuring that all personnel working on the project understand the code and specification requirements applicable to their specific scope of work
  • Review quality records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in Monitoring and evaluating the subcontractors' performance and report to the Construction Quality Manager.
  • Support Field Coordinators with material receiving process to ensure all received materials are in conformance with the approved submittal, stored and handled properly.
  • Review and monitor the disposition and status of all issued nonconforming reports and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the associated corrective actions
  • Recommend and implement improvements when required.

Required Knowledge and Experience

•    Currently enrolled in post- secondary Co-Op program - Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 
•    Experience in the construction industry is a strong asset.
•    Knowledge of Canadian Building Codes, CSA and ASTM codes considered an asset
•    Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills.
•    Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.
•    Organizational and time management skills.
•    Basic knowledge of general construction methods and construction codes
•    Understand the requirements of fire-related construction requirements.
•    Strong organizational skills
•    Proficiency in MS Office and Quality Management systems.
•    Ability to prioritize and multi-task/ Service orientated.
•    Thrive on a fast-paced environment.
•    Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
•    Class 5 DL (GDL acceptable)
