About the Role
Colas Canada is seeking a Technical Services Co-Operative Intern to join our team for a firsthand learning experience on one of Alberta’s largest infrastructure projects.

This role is ideal for students enrolled in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology (CET), or related programs who are eager to gain practical exposure to construction processes, technical documentation, and quality standards.
As part of the Technical Services team, you will assist with various tasks that support project delivery, compliance, and efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting while collaborating with experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

The duties will be varied and will focus on tasks/activities required to meet our environmental, safety and design compliance obligations.

Candidates should be physically able to negotiate terrain on an in-process construction site.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with technical documentation and record management for construction activities
  • Support field inspections and site visits to observe progress and ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Assist with resolution of technical issues (NCRs/SQs)
  • Help complete turn-over documentation (CTO Packages)
  • Prepare reports and summaries for internal coordination and client updates
  • Participate in quality assurance processes, including reviewing drawings and specifications
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the Technical Services team
  • Respond to requested tasks from engineers and coordinators to support project needs
  • Initiative-taking and work well with minimum or no direct supervision
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge and Experience

•    Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology (CET), or related program
•    Experience in the construction industry is a strong asset.
•    Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret technical information 
•    Excellent organizational and time management skills 
•    Effective communication skills (oral and written) 
•    Ability to work in a challenging environment and adapt to changing priorities 
•    Comfortable with occasional site visits and navigating active construction areas 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and willingness to learn project-specific software
•    Class 5 DL (GDL acceptable)
•    Thrive on a challenging environment
•    Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines
