Job Summary:

Operates self-propelled grader to spread and level dirt, gravel, and stone to finish grade specifications in construction and maintenance of earthwork structures such as highways, streets, airports, dikes, temporary roads, and subdivisions. 

Main Responsibilities:

•    Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
•    Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies 
•    Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives
•    Observe safety procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly
•    Read and interpret survey markers and stakes to meet set standards; read and interpret plans and specifications
•    Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment
•    Drive grader in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals
•    Operate blade to regulate elevation and angle of slopes; may perform fine or rough grading
•    Drive grader in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals
•    Conduct equipment inspections and perform equipment maintenance tasks, including, but not limited to greasing, and checking/replacing oil and fluids; perform minor repairs on equipment
•    Operate other tools and equipment as required for assigned tasks
•    Assist in other areas as necessary for project completion

Education:

•    Valid drivers’ license with ability to maintain a clean driving history 
•    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Skills:

•    5 or more years of experience operating a finish blade preferred; operator certifications a plus
•    Experience operating other types of heavy equipment preferred; operator certifications a plus
•    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Physical Requirements:

•    Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to use hands to move and manipulate objects
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
•    Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
•    Regularly required to work from a seated position operating equipment for long periods
•    Frequently exposed to loud noise 
•    Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration
•    Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
•    Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
•    Occasionally exposed to working from high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation*:    $22-$38 DOE

 

*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual’s qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.
