Job Summary:
The Quality Control Technician I is responsible for testing and inspection of all aggregate products produced and delivered to internal and external customers.
The Technician I level is an entry-level role; candidates will have up to 2 years of experience, an associate’s degree, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position can be based out of Fort Collins, CO or Cheyenne, WY. Frequent travel will be required to Cheyenne, WY.
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
• Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives
• Read, understand, and demonstrate working knowledge of the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt industry
• Communicate across all departments to enhance the teamwork essential to consistently producing quality products
• Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary
• Ensure that accurate test results are reported daily and on time to supervisor
• Review and analyze test results to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications
• Conduct assigned work in according to company policies, regulatory agency guidance and compliance standards
• Operate company vehicles to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary
Education:
• ACI and DOT testing certified, or ability to become certified within 1 year; other certifications may be required
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain clean driving record required
Skills:
• 2 years of technical quality control experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred; associates degree in related field preferred
• 2 years of experience in quality control testing of aggregates, asphalt and ready-mix concrete preferred
• Ability to learn and interpret applicable reference and testing material manuals and specifications governed by federal, state and local testing agencies, to include DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards
• Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups
• Ability to work with team to resolve technical issues
• Basic computer skills including use of MS Office Products
Physical Requirements:
• Wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) required
• Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
• Frequently exposed to all weather conditions
• Regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects
• Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
• Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
• Work performed indoors and outdoors; noise exposure varies from quiet to loud
• Frequent exposure to working around moving equipment and machinery
• Frequent exposure to dust, airborne particles and chemicals, and all types of weather
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation*: $20-$28 DOE
*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual’s qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.
